30 May 2017 - Meet Joseph Calder

spartans-2006

Here at Alba Science, we are the proud sponsors of the Spartans 2006 football age group.  As a company, we have been heavily involved with the grass roots development of these young kids for over 5 years now.  The boys train up to 4 days a week and play matches every Sunday in the East of Scotland Development Association fixtures.

Outside of our sponsorship, and over the last 5 years, the boys have helped raise more than £6,000 themselves through various fund-raising activities, ranging from bag packing at supermarkets to sponsored dribbles.  These funds have gone towards additional professional coaching, extra equipment, attending football festivals around Scotland.  They also attended a football tournament in Poland, their 1st competitive venture into European football, in which one team won their group matches and the other finished as runner up.

In the last year, we had a new goalkeeper, Joseph Calder join the group.  Its fair to say that Joseph is a typical goalie, larger than life with a huge character and is a passionate Hibs fan.  His enthusiasm and banter around the club very quickly established himself as a firm favourite with both teammates and coaches.

diabetesUnfortunately, Joseph was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes just after joining the club.  We have seen first hand the struggles he and his family have in dealing with this daily.

After speaking with Josephs parents to ascertain how best the club and coaches could help support him, both at training and on match days, to make sure he gets the same experiences and enjoyment as the entire group, they pointed us in the direction of the following fund-raising page:

As Joseph is very much part of the Spartans family, the coaches, players, parents and us here at Alba Science have all committed to supporting the family and teammate to help them reach their target.

We at Alba Science are asking our extended Alba family to help us change the way a 10 year old boy lives his day to day life.  If you can donate, sponsor or even simply share the page we would be very grateful.

Kind Regards
